SSH wins Kuwait Children’s Hospital project

IBBC member SSH has been appointed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works, in association with global architects HKS, to provide study and design for the new Children’s Hospital on a design-award-construct basis.

Kuwait’s newest Children’s Hospital will feature a total of 792 beds, split between secondary care, with 160 beds, and the allocated 632-bed tertiary care to suit all medical needs and modes of treatment. The 300,000 hospital will be located within the Al Sabah Speciality Medical Area, in Al- Shuwaikh.

The design concept will be delivered with a ‘Future Hospital Design’ theme in mind with an innovative and functional design incorporating state-of-the-art technology, energy conservation and the highest standard of construction, materials and equipment. The hospital will provide an unthreatening, comfortable, stress-free and home-like environment for its patients and their respective families.

The facility will also include a common diagnostic and treatment services to complement both secondary and tertiary care, along with other non-clinical support and common departments. Non-healthcare structures, functions and services are also part of the scope inclusive of a minimum of 2,000 car parking spaces, a helipad to support emergency air transport services and a free-standing day care centre catering to infants, pre-toddlers and pre-schoolers, dedicated to children of staff working at the proposed facility. In addition, a shelter for civil defence has been requested.
