Professor Hamid Khalaf Ahmed, PM Advisor & Executive Director of the Higher Committee for Education Developments in Iraq, signed an MOU with IBBC to collaborate on the new 5,000 Scholarships the Government of Iraq is providing to students this year and beyond. Baroness Nicholson, President of IBBC, signed the MoU and hosted the event in the House of Lords. The Iraqi Cultural attaché in London, accompanied Prof. Hamid and took part in the discussions followed the signing affirming the support of his office to British universities interested in collaborating with Iraq.

IBBC has a strong membership of universities, who were all present at the signing, including Newcastle, Dundee, Bath Spa, Queen Mary University of London, and Liverpool, as well as colleagues from Oxford and Cambridge universities. IBBC’s Education sector is led by Prof. Mohammed Al Uzri, who facilitated the signing and was present to witness the event.

Prof. Hamid outlined the scope and intention of the scholarships, which generated a lot of interest and discussions with the IBBC university group. The universities confirmed their willingness to receive those students and provide support to smooth the application process as well as induction to life and study in UK.

Baroness Nicholson said, ‘Everything went well with Professor Hamid and future plans were set to advance the cause further in the coming months.’

Professor Al Uzri commented ‘ Iraq is intent on modernising its education offer, and access to the UK’s world class expertise and teaching is high on their agenda. IBBC are fortunate to have a strong relationship with Professor Hamid, who is leading this huge programme with input from major educational stakeholders in Iraq’.
