IBBC Member Forum – Tuesday 26th May

Over 25 IBBC members attended the May Member Forum. Jon Wilks gave a broad overview of the tensions between the United States and Iran, which Iraq continues to endure, and the way in which the country will need to navigate a narrow path forward. John Kitchen of Defaf Alkhaleej Security gave an overview of the security situation in Iraq, which remains under pressure, with the potential for power cuts and rising unemployment that may lead to further protests.

New member Al Nessour was represented by Furat Kuba, who gave an overview of the company’s work in acting as a bridge between the UK and Iraqi jurisdictions for many IBBC members and others operating between the two countries.

Harry Holcroft of IN2 then presented the company’s work in strategic communications, incorporating research, reputation management, deep insights and analytics for a number of government and private-sector clients in Iraq and internationally. The company currently has offices in Erbil, the UK and Poland.

Christophe Michels then provided an update on upcoming online and in-person events, including the 1st June investment banking meeting with the EBRD, UKEF and IFC; the 8th June seminar on geopolitics and energy; the 8th June dinner with the Governor of the Central Bank in London; the 4th June Tech Forum; the 11th June SME London event; the 21st June force majeure event with Quinn Emanuel; and the 22nd June Education Panel.

Furthermore, Christophe Michels and Jon Wilks plan to visit Baghdad at the end of June and will host a dinner for members during the visit.
