IBBC Baghdad Team Attends EBRD Launch of Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) Programme in Iraq

On the 12th of February, the IBBC team in Baghdad, led by Mr Mohammed Alsaadi of Sama Hammurabi Law Firm, attended the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) conference marking the launch of its Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) Programme in Iraq. Several IBBC members were also present at the event.

The event brought together government, financial institutions, and private sector representatives to discuss enabling Iraq’s business environment and supporting SME growth. Discussions highlighted key challenges facing SMEs and practical solutions to improve access to advisory services, technology, and markets. The programme also featured the launch of the EBRD Star Venture Programme, supporting high-potential start-ups operating in Iraq that are majority-owned by Iraqi citizens and less than ten years old. Applications are now open, with a deadline of 01 April 2026.

Mohammed Alsaadi said “It was a pleasure to join fellow IBBC members and partners at the EBRD conference in Baghdad. Such engagements enable valuable connections, knowledge exchange, and support for initiatives strengthening Iraq’s SME and start-up ecosystem.”

IBBC was pleased to join members and partners at this important initiative supporting the development and growth of Iraq’s private sector.

IBBC will continue these discussions at its upcoming SME Business Forum in London on 27 March 2026, convening Iraqi and UK partners to explore new opportunities for Iraqi SMEs in the UK market, with a focus on international growth, fintech innovation, and strengthening cross-border business collaboration.
