Christophe Michels, IBBC Managing Director, met today with H.E. Dr. Salih Husain Ali Al Tamimi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, at the Iraqi Embassy in London.
During the meeting, Christophe congratulated His Excellency on his appointment as Ambassador. Their discussion covered a wide range of issues, including current affairs in the United Kingdom, the forthcoming UK elections, the formation of the Iraqi government and the ongoing war between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The Ambassador highlighted the strong relationship between Iraq and Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, President of the IBBC, and expressed his appreciation to both her and Christophe for their continued work in Iraq through the IBBC.
They also discussed the potential for the United Kingdom to assume a more prominent role in the region with the ambassador expressing Iraq’s respect for the UK and the mutual trust between the two nations.
Christophe extended an invitation to His Excellency to attend upcoming IBBC events, including the IBBC Spring Conference at Mansion House on 8–9 June, and expressed that he looks forward to welcoming him to further conferences in Iraq later in the year.
Christophe emphasised that the IBBC and Ambassador worked very well together when he was previously ambassador from 2016-2018 and there was a further shared understanding to continue to work collaboratively towards common objectives, particularly in supporting the growth of Iraq’s private sector and fostering a business environment that is more attractive to British investors.
