IBBC Members Attend the The Iraqi Women and Civil Society Forum II

The Second Forum for Iraqi Women and Civil Society, organised under the supervision of Ms. Sara Ayad Allawi, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Civil Society Affairs, was held in Baghdad under the theme “Woman, a Key Partner in Development.” The forum brought together more than 100 local and international NGOs, government representatives, and women’s rights advocates. Its central aim was to highlight the critical role of women in driving sustainable development and contributing meaningfully to Iraq’s reconstruction efforts.

IBBC Representative in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Saadi, attended the event where he was accompanied by a group of female lawyers from his team. Ms. Hind Hussein and Ms. Kani Helmi also represented IBBC at the event reinforcing the effort of the IBBC to help sustain the momentum of national support for women’s empowerment in Iraq.

Throughout the forum, several key themes were addressed, including the protection of women from violence, the importance of inclusive political participation, and the need to strengthen women’s leadership at all levels of society. Participants also explored legal reforms and policy initiatives under discussion in the Iraqi Parliament that directly affect women’s rights and representation.

Hind Hussein, Partner at Control Risks commented : “The forum exists to support and empower women. In this regard, Ms. Sara Alawi has worked closely with the Prime Minister, who is a strong advocate for women’s participation in both the public and private sectors. The IBBC contributes to this effort by promoting education for Iraqi women and encouraging British companies operating in Iraq to employ women, including in managerial roles. Today, women are making daily contributions to the Iraqi economy, and their role in society is set to grow as conditions for them continue to improve.”

Kani Helmi, Acting Director of Administrations at Cadmus International School of Sabis Network also shared her thoughts: “The event was eye-opening, highlighting the need to empower women in decision-making and business. Sara Ayad Allawi and the speakers addressed women’s rights and safety with honesty and courage. By linking their members with the forum’s audience, IBBC creates opportunities for women to connect, share experiences, gain visibility, and build mentorship networks with role models from Iraq and abroad, strengthening their active role in society.”
