IBBC’s senior management visit Basrah

A delegation of IBBC’s senior Iraqi management team visited Basra to prepare the way for the December Conference and meet members.

Mr Jon Wilks CMG, senior advisor, Dr Ali Jawad Basra director, and Ali Mashkour, Baghdad office visited IBBC Southern members combined a fact-finding trip ahead of the IBBC Basra December Conference, with member discussions, networking dinners, to introduce Mr. Ali Mashkour, the new Baghdad office manager and meet government officials.

IBBC’s members in the South included trips to meet new member, AlFajer Ur Group, The Basra Gas Company (BGC):  who explained their success story combines international expertise with local Iraqi skills and knowledge to take total local Iraqi manpower to near 3000 with 200 expats. Hydro-C Ltd and their local partner Al-Jazeel Group.

A Lunch with IBBC’s members was organized in the Grand Millenium Hotel attended by Al Busttan Group, Control Risk Group, Al Fajer Group, Wood Group, Mselect, and Basrah Chamber of Commerce. 

The team then visited the Southern Technical University where Dr Adnan Ateeq the Dean explained the successful impact the courses and activities had on university students from different Iraqi provinces. Dr Adnan also expressed his support for the IBBC conference by hosting the Education Day on 5th December at their facilities.

The team travelled to Al Majal who organized a trip to their facilities in Burjesia and North Rumaila.  Here Al Majal provides several international companies with Life support, secure accommodation, logistical service, training center, warehousing and workshops. The visit ended by meeting Al-Rida Group and Mr Nafi (Rasmi Aljabris cousin). Al-Rida Group have been awarded with financing PowerChina the large water project in Basrah.

Jon Wilks CMG, IBBC senior advisor said ‘It’s important to witness the economic progress in Basra and the challenges and opportunities it brings. Meeting our members and key government players in the region helps us to understand how we can best support our members and to ensure our conference on 3-5th December can address the needs of our members across Iraq, particularly the impact of the Al Faw port and dry road infrastructure developments.
