Professor Mohammed Al-Uzri Advances IBBC’s Education and Health Missions During Visit to Baghdad

Professor Mohammed Al-Uzri, Health and Education Advisor to the IBBC, undertook a 10-day trip to Baghdad last month to attend events and meetings that further expanded the IBBC’s education mission and network.

Professor Al-Uzri was part of a medical delegation from the Iraqi diaspora received by the Prime Minister of Iraq, H.E. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, supporting the health mission of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS). Alongside fellow diaspora members, he observed the standards of treatment employed by the organization and consulted with patients to advise on care. This initiative reflects the IBBC’s ongoing support for the IRCS, particularly in light of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the IBBC and the IRCS in April 2024.

In other activities, Professor Al-Uzri chaired a panel discussion on behalf of the IBBC at the first Iraqi Health Tourism Conference. The discussion focused on the role of academia in supporting health service and its development in Iraq. The panel included senior clinical academic health professionals who shared their expertise and experience with the audience.

He was also invited to participate in another panel discussion at Al-Nahrain University, organized in collaboration with the British Council and High Commission for Education Development . The university, which aims to address the ‘needs of Iraqi society in medicine, engineering, and applied human sciences’,through international engagement. The panel explored the internationalization of education and opportunities for collaboration with universities in the UK.

Professor Al-Uzri additionally contributed his experience and expertise in reviewing the Al-Mustansiriya university’s Medical College curriculum and assessment methods. He met the President senior leadership of the University who shared their ambition to modernise medical education in the college.

In addition to his work with universities and the IRCS, Professor Al-Uzri met with the newly appointed British Ambassador to Iraq, H.E. Mr. Irfan Siddiq, to reaffirm IBBC commitment to work closely with British Embassy in Baghdad. They exchanged views on advancing Iraq’s education sector, particularly in the context of the IBBC’s growing focus on education through its partnership with the Iraqi Higher Committee for Education (HCED). The Director of the British Council attended the meeting and reflected on longstanding collaboration on Education in Iraq .”
