Stephen Hickey appointed as Her Majesty’s next Ambassador to Iraq
On Thursday 12 September, Her Majesty’s government announced that Stephen Hickey will succeed Jon Wilks CMG as Her Majesty’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq.
Mr. Hickey, presently the UK Ambassador and Political Coordinator at the UK Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, will take up his new appointment during November 2019.
Mr. Hickey is a distinguished diplomat who has wide experience in the Middle East and is well acquainted with the region’s past and current issues having worked in the Middle East Directorate as the FCO Team Leader, Iran Bilateral, Regional and Reform Team between 2006 and 2008. He also served as Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo and Damascus and as Head of Office and Deputy Special Representative in Banghazi, Libya between the years 2007 and 2013.
The IBBC welcomes the appointment wishing the Ambassador success in his new post and looks forward to continue close cooperation with the UK Embassy in Baghdad under his tenure.
