BP, in partnership with the IBBC Young Executives Network, host Iraqi Paralympian Ammar Ali at the British Museum
IBBC Member BP hosted a reception in honour of Iraqi Paralympian champion Ammar Ali at the British Museum on 17 January. The event was planned in partnership with IBBC’s Young Executive Committee (YEN).
Numerous guests and YEN members were in attendance to welcome Ammar Ali, a 2015 wheelchair fencing world champion, as well as a Paralympian in the London (2012) and Rio (2016) games. Attendees heard the remarkable story of Ammar’s journey from construction worker in Baghdad who was tragically injured during a bomb blast in 2007 that paralysed both of his legs and through adversity and immense perseverance has reached the pinnacle of sporting excellence representing Iraq globally.
Mr Zaid Elyaseri, BP Iraq Country Manager, hosted the event, which also featured traditional Iraqi Oud music and a private showing of the Ashurbanipal exhibition, King of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, which incorporated modern Iraq and who was once the most powerful man on earth.
Mr Sammy Sharifi, Chairman of the Young Executives Network, gave a presentation to guests on the activities of the YEN group, its core mission values and future aspirations for the network.
